Burqa in Afghanistan Culture

I write this just to clear for those who still thinks Afghan women are forced to wear burqa ( burka ) . I do not count Taliban time on this document.

Wearing burqa is not something new it has been in Afghanistan culture for centuries I read on some documents that women in Afghanistan weared burqa before Islam too.

What if I say some of teenagers in europe and U.S.A are forced to wear mini skirts!??

Well maybe you say no they are not forced. Ok let me explain to you. If a teen girl wear old style cloths most of her friends make a joke on her and boys don't even look at her.Isnt it one kind of force to wear some special style of cloths!?

Let me give you another example.What if I say japanese women are forced to wear kimono sometimes. I sound stupid yeh?

Well thats what some people sounds when they say: Afghan women are forced to wear burqa.

Remember one thing! Afghan women wear burqa because wearing burqa is a good value and its kinda our traditional clothes.

Well unfortunatly women has not much power in afghanistan . Often its men who rule the family. In our culture women is kinda slave which is used for sexual satisfactions and cooking and taking care of children. Women most respect her husbend and obey his orders. In other hand men has the right to beat the hell out of his wife and even kill her if she sleep with another men or disobey the given orders. but rememer its only in some cases but not all men beat there wife and sometimes can women can be the boss in family too! Women has right for divorce in Afghanistan. But dirvoce is kinda taboo so you won't see it in small cities. Because often after divorce women not getting married and not much job opurtunities the is hard for women who divorced unless she have full backing of her own family and relatives. men think it as a disgrace often if his wife go out and work so most of the time men don't let his wife to go out and work.

Some facts about Marriage in Afghanistan culture

95% of the time its female parents who decide with whom the girl should marry. Female parents say the final word Yes or No.

And in some cases girl never see the face of her husbend before marriage! Girl does not have right to say I want That guy in most cases! Thats a taboo.

Age diffrences are very high sometimes it happen that 87 years old man marry 16 years old girl! But we don't see the opposite way!

If a man is rich he can marry almost any girl he desire! Sure money play an important role.

Marriage party in Afghanistan is very expensive specially in capital.

Things that male has to do:

Pay for the rent of hotel. ( Marriage party place.)

Feed about 500+ guests in hotel the marriage day.( cost lots of money! )

To buy gold neckless for girl . ( Tradition in most areas. )

Pay some money for female parents. ( called "shir baha" which is a most to do )

I do not include here less expensive things like: parties before marriage, paying for live music etc..
