Interview with Khaled Hosseini author of "Kite Runner"

Kites? Who has time for kites? They require a freedom and frivolity usually associated with the endless summers of youth.Khaled hosseini

``I haven't flown one in ages. Who has time for such things?'' laughs Khaled Hosseini, the Afghan-American author whose ``The Kite Runner'' has sold more than 3 million copies and become a publishing world phenomenon.

``Between writing the second book, about women in Afghanistan, and traveling for the first one, I really haven't had time for much of anything,'' says Hosseini, a physician who immigrated to San Jose as a teenager in 1980. ``The book came out of the gates slowly -- there were days when I couldn't pay people to read it -- but then something happened, and it just took off . . . and changed my life drastically.''

That ``something'' was a network of book clubs and indie booksellers. They devoured Hosseini's autobiographical first novel and handed it off to others . . and the word spread: Here is a new author who deserves your attention.

Prostitution in Kabul Afghanistan

Afghan police have rounded up scores of suspects in a series of raids across Kabul. But this time the prisoners wechinese prostitutere not Taleban insurgents but Chinese women - the notorious Chinese prostitutes of Kabul.

In the four years since the fall of the Taleban, an extraordinary number of "Chinese restaurants" have opened up in Kabul. Although they have bright neon signs and menus, and they do sell food; most are fronts for prostitution.Chinese restaurants have become so synonymous with brothels in Kabul that it's not a good idea to tell anybody you are going for a Chinese meal in case they get the wrong impression.By day you can spot the prostitutes hanging around the restaurants, often wearing skimpy clothes that would be unimaginable for any Afghan woman.

It can't be easy being dumped by one of Bollywood's most beautiful leading ladies. But for promising young star Viveik Oberoi,salman khan it might just help his career.

The split between Oberoi and megastar beauty queen Aishwarya Rai has paved the way to ending one of Indian cinema's most famous feuds - between Oberoi and Bollywood leading man Salman Khan.

Khan, who is well-known for his leading roles in action and romantic movies, called Oberoi to offer him his support after reports of the breakup surfaced, the Times of India reported.

Afghan-Hindo woman gets Indian citizenship!!

An Afghan woman, who came to India after fleeing from a repressive Taliban regime, has finally become a naturalised Indian citizen.

For Waz Devi Sachdeva, who lives in Delhi's Tilak Nagar, the last 14 years have been long and hard.

She was forced to flee Kabul with her family when the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 1992.

Leaving behind her home and property, she arrived in India as a refugee, seeking asylum.

"It has been very difficult. I have washed utensils, done sweeping to get through the difficult times," she said.

Kabul, Jan 29: Afghan-made Coca-Cola hit the streets of Kabul today as distribution started from a USD 25 million plant that represents one of the most significant investments in the war-torn country since the ouster of the Taliban.
